Now for the car problem, mind you that I'm no car expert, but I'm going by personal experience :P If the starter doesn't turn over, it could mean that the solenoid on it got shot, so that could need replacing. If you hear a squealing or a screeching, you might want to verify that the belt that goes between the alternator is pretty tense. I wouldn't be surprised if they fixed everything except the problem. Then again, I don't know what you drive, let alone how old it is and the last time you had electrical work done on it.
